Birds of our Estuary - Field Guide

This booklet was created for the Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust, a regular customer of mine while working at FocusPrint. I was in charge of this project but also got help near the end from the other Graphic Designer for detailing and final changes.

The brief was to create a field guide of all of the birds that can be spotted in the estuary. I was provided with all of the written content and photos. I had to stick to the usual colours that the Estuary Trust uses but had creative freedom around everything else. I created a grid and layout that I used for each spread, the only real differences between some of the pages were the photo layouts and some pages have activities at the bottom of the main text. 

The target audience for this project was everyone. It is designed to be given to people before they go for walks around the estuary to spot all of the birds. Due to this, we picked some lighter paper stocks that it can easily fit in someone’s bags or be rolled and put in their pocket. 

I really enjoyed working on this project and learning more about our native birds along the way.
